The constellation of obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperglycemia within an individual, is referred to as metabolic syndrome (MetS), and is increasing in prevalence in the United States and world-wide. Patients with MetS have a heightened probability of developing type 2 diabetes and atherothromotic disease.
